The Role of Ovarian Cancer in Incidence Trend of Woman¢¥s Cancer

Abstract

|
Background: Cervical cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer are 3 women¢¥s major cancers in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyse the mortality trend of cervical cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer. Methods: The crude death rate and SMR(Standardized Mortality Ratio) are analyzed and compared in 3 woman¢¥s major cancers. Results: We examined their mortality trends. Cervical cancer¢¥s SMR is changed from 1.25(95% CI: 1.18-1.32) in 1983 to 0.79(0.75-0.84) in 1998. Breast cancer¢¥s SMR is changed from 0.78(0.70-0.86) in 1983 to 1.33(1.24-1.41) in 1998. Ovarian cancer¢¥s SMR is changed from 0.24(0.17-0.32) in 1983 to 1.71(1.55-1.87) in 1998. Conclusions: The mortality trend of cervix cancer is steadily decreasing from 1994. But, breast and ovarian cancer incidence are steadily increasing.
